Purpose:
• To provide a competitive shooting program that offers scholarship opportunities to youth participants based on a series of shooting scores.
Scholarships:
• Scholarship money that is earned by participants will be held by the governing body of YSSP until such time that the eligible participant completes the application process. Once approved by the YSSP governing body, scholarship monies will be distributed directly to the educational organization on behalf of the participant. Scholarships may be used for any organization of higher learning, trade school, or personal development that will benefit the participant in becoming a contributing member of society. Approval of the governing body is required for any fund requests that are not for an accredited college. Scholarship funds must be used prior to the eligible participants 21st birthday. A military exception may be made at the discretion of the YSSP governing board to extend a participant’s age eligibility.
Governing Body:
• The governing body of YSSP will be the board of directors of North Caddo Shooting Club, until such time as it is determined that YSSP needs its own board of directors, at which time the President of North Caddo Shooting Club will appoint such board.
Age Categories:
• Age categories for shotgun and rifle events will be as follows:
Sub Junior – 9 to 12 years of age as of January 1st of the target year
Junior – 13 to 15 years of age as of January 1st of the target year
Senior – 16 to 19 years of age as of January 1st of the target year
Host Clubs:
• For a shooting club to be eligible to host a YSSP event, the governing body of YSSP must approve the location.
Tournament Structure:
• The YSSP target year will run from January 1st to December 31st. Each YSSP target year will consist of two (2) preliminary events and one (1) championship event. Participants must register a qualifying score in at least one (1) preliminary event to be eligible for participation in the championship event.
Fees:
• Each participant will pay the following registration fees to register for the YSSP target year. Fees for preliminary and championship events are not included in the registration fees.
Registration Fee – $50 – one time per target year
Discipline Fee – $50 – per discipline
• 100% of the discipline fees collected will be used to fund scholarship payouts.
Scheduling Events:
• In an effort to maximize participation, YSSP will make every effort to schedule preliminary and championship events so as they do not conflict with other shooting organizations, who have established dates for shooting competitions. Examples being: 4H Regional and State shoots, ASA, S3DA, ATA, AIM, CMP.
• Preliminaries will begin in February or March, with an expectation of having the Championship event in May.
Preliminary Events:
• The cost for any preliminary event cannot exceed $25 per discipline.
• Awards for preliminary events will be determine by shoot management at the host club and may be medals, trophies, or plaques. Awards will include 1st – 3rd place in each age category, for each discipline.
• Ties during preliminary events will be broken by longest string. In the event a longest string cannot break the tie, both participants will be awarded 1st place awards, thereby eliminating a 2nd place finisher.
Championship Event:
• The cost for any championship event cannot exceed $50 per discipline.
• Placing for championship events will be determined by combining one (1) qualifying preliminary score with the championship event score to determine a final standing scholarship score. For those that participated in more than one preliminary event, the highest score will carry over to the championship event.
• All ties for scholarship awards will be broken by shoot-offs.
• Awards for the championship event will be in the form of Scholarships. Scholarship money will be distributed based on the following tables:
Shotgun Event:
• The shotgun event will consist of 2 disciplines:
Discipline 1 – Trap. Preliminary trap will consist of 1 rounds of trap per ATA regulations from the 16 yard line for a total of 25 shots.
Discipline 2 – Skeet. Preliminary skeet will consist of 1 round of skeet per NSSA regulations for a total of 25 shots.
Rifle Event:
• The rifle event will consist of 1 discipline:
Discipline 1 – Optical. Optical 3 position rifle will consist of shooting paper targets from the positions of Standing (25 yards), Sitting (50 yards), and Prone (50 yards). Sub Junior and Junior participants will shoot ten (10) shots from each position for a total of thirty (30) shots. Senior participants will shoot twenty (20) shots from each position, ten (10) slow and ten (10) rapid, for a total of sixty (60) shots.
